Your Breast MRI will be performed on our state-of-the-art 3T magnet with a specially designed (16 channel) breast coil. At the beginning of your exam you will have a private room where you will change into your gown. You will then lay on the MRI table on your stomach and place your breast into the circular breast coil. There is also padding to rest your head so that you may relax and remain comfortable during your scan. This exam also requires contrast which will be administered once you are in the MRI room.

The American Cancer Society recommends (and most insurance companies pay for) an annual Breast MRI for women who have one or more of the following risk factors:

  • A diagnosis of breast cancer
  • Two or more relatives with breast cancer
  • A family member diagnosed with breast cancer under age 50
  • A male relative with breast cancer
  • A family history or a previous diagnosis of ovarian cancer
  • BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation
  • No BRCA test result but a first degree relative with BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations
  • A 20% or greater lifetime risk of breast cancer using a risk assessment program. Click here
